The Night-Side of Nature is an experimental video triptych that explores the intersection of the Gothic moods and atmospherics of Edgar Allan Poe's literature, legacy in cinema history and context in the Australian natural environment.
Exhibited as part of the opening exhibition for South Australian contemporary photography and art gallery The Lightroom Gallery.

The Devil's associate stalks the streets looking for a victim. A man in trucker's cap has an encounter deep in the forest. A tormented girl tells her psychiatrist why she believes that no one likes her. This series of images is a mosaic made from fragments, loose connections, ideas and inspirations; a homage to the midnight movie, cult and b-film. This was created as part of a PhD research thesis in which the literature of Edgar Allan Poe and the cinema of Jean Epstein was used as a starting point; a source of inspiration. I set out to film a series of different ideas for a collection of possible films; films that don't exist but that maybe one day we could make. Contained within this mosaic are images that could be plucked from an array of films that all call out to the traditions of the midnight movie, cult film or trashy, independant, ritualistic arthouse. All ideas are embedded with themes and motifs excavated from both Edgar Allan Poe and Jean Epstein. The title of each still - Cruising, Encounter, Confession and Identikit - are all keywords taken from my analysis of themes and visual stylings of the two artists.
